POSITION TITLE:                           PRESCHOOL INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT

 

QUALIFICATIONS:                          High School Diploma or G.E.D.

 

REPORTS TO:                                  Building Principal

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Assist lead teacher(s) in planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate program for children based on the High Scope model and incorporating successful strategies from other early childhood and special education methods.
  2. Assist the lead teacher(s) in planning an environment and providing experiences which address all areas of child development.
  3. Assist the lead teacher(s) in monitoring child progress through a variety of data recording methods which may include: anecdotal observations, video taping, portfolio, Child Observation Record (COR), or other assessment protocols.
  4. Assist the lead teacher(s) in evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of the Preschool Program through regular staff meetings.
  5. Assist the lead teacher(s) in maintaining a clean, safe and inviting environment in which children have the opportunity to develop to their full potential.
  6. Model mature and professional behavior for children, staff and families.
  7. Assist in implementing the IEP for children with disabilities.
  8. Participate in a minimum of 24 hours of professional development activities provided by the District and other self-elected professional growth activities.
  9. Participate in or conduct home visits as scheduled by the lead teacher(s). Home visits will be conducted by a team of Preschool staff members, with at least two (2) present.
  10. Maintain compliance with all local, state and federal regulations and follow established program policies and procedures.
  11. Maintain child’s records and maintain confidentiality of records, family contacts, preschool activities and information received from other agencies.
  12. Assist in conducting developmental screening and assessment activities.
  13. Assist students with physical/personal hygiene needs.
  14. Be actively involved in transporting food and utensils needed to and from the school cafeteria and Preschool classroom.
  15. Perform routine clerical/instructional duties in support of classroom instruction, e.g., copying, attendance reporting, filing, laminating, typing, cutting, gathering/creating lesson materials, decorating bulletin boards, playground supervision, supervision of field trips, monitoring of school bus, etc.
  16. Use technology to support the curriculum, i.e., computers, VCR’s, printers, cameras, copiers, etc.
  17. Receive training, within a reasonable amount of time, on: High Scope curriculum, developmentally appropriate screening/assessment, First Aid and CPR.
  18. Perform any additional duties as assigned by the Preschool teachers and/or Preschool Director.
  19. Applies all school and district policies and procedures.
