Curriculum Specialist – Job Description
TITLE: Curriculum Specialist
QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Kentucky teaching certification for elementary and/or middle and/or high school. A minimum of five (5) years successful classroom teaching experience. Certificate in instructional/teacher leadership preferred, or working toward certification.
REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent
JOB GOALS: To provide direct support and technical assistance to school staff in district-wide initiatives and in planning and implementing an educational program that will improve student achievement.
Alignment of Curricula, Instruction, and Assessment
- Assists assistant superintendent to ensuring a district wide aligned curriculum with essential standards, learning targets, and aligned assessment
- Assists assistant superintendent and building principals to promote the educational development of each student, and the professional development of the total staff
- Assists assistant superintendent and school leadership to implement Professional Learning Communities for the specific purpose of continuous monitoring of students’ achievement and the alignment process
- Assists assistant superintendent and school leadership in ensuring a Multi-Tiered System of Supports for the specific purpose of meeting the needs of all students.
- Works with assistant superintendent and building principals to ensure implementation and evaluation of all aspects of the PLC
- Plans and provides job embedded professional development for teachers on current educational issues and/or standards and curriculum alignment
- Assists teachers in organizing classrooms for effective learning
- Works with assistant superintendent and principals to ensure the production and implementation of written curricula that is aligned with Kentucky’s Academic Standards
- Works with assistant superintendent and principals to engage teachers in curriculum development/refinement/evaluation activities
- Provides direct support and technical assistance to staff in instructional areas including lesson preparation and modeling lessons
- Studies and keeps up-to-date on the most current educational methods by attending conferences and visiting schools; share with staff/school and district leadership for implementation implication
- Works with the assistant superintendent to ensure implementation and evaluation of common formative and summative assessments in all core areas
- Assists the assistant superintendent with coordinating the implementation of MAP and other diagnostic assessments
- Works with assistant superintendent to facilitate data analysis of common assessments, MAP, state assessments, and other diagnostic assessments to enhance student learning and improve instruction across grade levels
- Assists teachers in analyzing data to enhance student achievement across grade levels
- Provides support on the use of the district’s data management system.
- Work with assistant superintendent, teachers, and principals to evaluate and select appropriate curriculum resources
- Works with assistant superintendent to ensure a common vision for and effective implementation of district initiatives (e.g., instructional protocol, portrait of a graduate, etc.)
